Congratulations! You’ve done it! You’ve finished your exams and it’s now time to celebrate 😊 Whether you’re doing GCSEs or A-levels, exam seasons are stressful and it’s important to reward yourself for how hard you’ve worked.

Now that you’ve got some more free time on your hands, it’s an ideal opportunity to do those things that you normally wouldn’t have time to do during exam season such as taking a long walk, heading out onto the lakes with your friends, or even reading that book you didn’t have for because of your exams. Having that relaxed period is hugely important to help recharge your batteries, but it’s also important to make sure you don’t loose sight of what’s ahead. Is there something you can be doing over the summer break to help get yourself ready for whatever you plan to do next?

Why not try and use your summer break to get a bit of a head start on some of the things that could help you prepare for September? Do you know what your next steps are for September? Whether you’ve chosen to start an apprenticeship, sixth form, university, or a college course, or another route, you’ll have to get yourself ready for that next jump, and the sooner you do this, the better it will be.

If you’re still unsure as to what you want to do now that you have finished, why not take a look at our free progression routes e-course on our website to help you determine what the right next steps are for you!

For those of you in FE (Further Education) who are considering university, but perhaps haven’t yet applied, why not visit one of the University of Cumbria’s open days taking place over the summer?

The University of Cumbria’s open days are taking place on the following dates:

Wednesday 26th June 2024

Thursday 27th June 2024

Friday 28th June 2024

We also have additional events listed on our website under the events tab.

Our final tip is to try and find some experience. Now you have some more time on your hands, why not try and find some work experience or a volunteering position. This will be extremely beneficial for you, helping you gain and develop your skills whilst also enhancing your CV. You’ve got a great opportunity here to use your chosen ‘summer activity’ to help boost your personal statements and CVs, showing your enthusiasm and desire to learn. This is all going to be really useful in interviews and on job applications in the future. . You may even be able to get some contacts in the industries you want to work in, or even a reference for your CV

We’ll be working throughout the summer so feel free to send us an email at hellofuture@cumbria.ac.uk if you have any questions about your next steps and how to prepare best.
