We are Jack and Emily, two of the Hello Future interns. You will have seen us in many classrooms across Cumbria, delivering a whole range of workshops. But it is time for us to move on. We wanted to write our last blog post together to look back on our time at Hello Future and say goodbye.

We have learnt so much whilst working at Hello Future, all of which will help us when it comes to our future endeavours.

Jack – I think the wide variety of classroom experience, as well as adaptability are two key things that I have learnt during my time at Hello Future, both of which will be of huge benefit to me in my next career as a teacher.

I will also be able to take with me a wide range of starter activities and riddles to use as warm-up tasks with my future students. They may need translating into Spanish but they’ll work nonetheless.

Emily – I feel like I have grown so much in confidence. I have not only learnt how to manage a classroom, but I have also learnt how to relate to staff and students to make my sessions the most impactful they can be.

So, what’s next for us?

Jack – I’m heading back to the classroom! In September, I will be training to be a secondary Spanish and German teacher through a PGCE course in Lancaster! I’m looking forward to being able to put everything I’ve learned here over the last year into practice in my new classroom.

Emily – I’m applying for several jobs in the heritage and political sectors. That is the beauty of my degree, it opens so many doors! I’m also strongly considering returning to university to do a PhD in Archaeology. My future might not be set in stone, but the possibilities are exciting!

We’d like to end our final post with two pieces of advice – one for any student in education, and one for the future interns who will take our places.

To those students – Choose a path that best suits you. You will be the one travelling it!

To the next interns – Don’t be afraid to give something a go, it may work out really well!

Good luck to you all with your futures!

Jack and Emily
